In Chinese culture, food is not just about taste. It is also an important part of staying healthy and balanced. Chinese Food Philosophy(理念,哲学) teaches that what we eat should follow the changes in nature, take food as medicine, and enjoy food in moderation. These ideas help us stay healthy and live in harmony with the universe.
Following the Seasons (顺应天时)
Chinese Food Philosophy believes that we should eat foods that match the seasons. In spring, we eat lighter, refreshing foods to help our bodies grow and move freely. In summer, we focus on cooling foods to beat the heat. In autumn, we eat foods that help keep us strong and prepare for colder weather. In winter, we eat warm, nourishing(滋补的,营养的) foods to help our bodies stay strong and protect us from the cold. By eating foods that fit the seasons, we stay in balance with nature.
Food as Medicine (药食同源)
In China, food is seen as more than just something to eat; it is also used to help our bodies heal. This idea is called ” food as medicine”. Many ingredients(原料,食材) in everyday food have healing powers. For example, ginger helps with digestion(消化), and goji berries(枸杞) can boost(提高,增强) energy. Foods like garlic and chili peppers(辣椒) are believed to help improve blood circulation. These foods don’t just fill our stomachs, but also keep us healthy.
Moderation in Diet (饮食有节)
Another important idea in Chinese Food Philosophy is moderation. Eating too much of anything, whether it’s food or drink, is not good for the body. It is important to eat just the right amount, not too little and not too much. Eating in moderation keeps our bodies strong, prevents illnesses, and allows us to enjoy food without overdoing it.
By following the seasons, taking food as medicine, and eating in moderation, we can live a healthier life. The wisdom of Chinese food culture helps us balance our bodies and minds, leading to a peaceful and happy life.

“No, my dear,” said his mother. “See how many thorns it has. You must not touch it, or you would be sure to hurt your C-37 .” When Ralph found that he could not have the white rose, he began to cry, and C-38 took it away. But he was soon very sorry. The thorns hurt his hand. It was so C-39 that he could not use it for some time.
Ralph would never C-40 this. From then on, when he wanted what he should not have, his mother would point to his hand which had been hurt before. He at last learned to do as he was told.
