Ten workers in China pushed their boss.s car three miles home after an office party because they were all too drunk to drive. The group was enjoying a meal at a restaurant in downtown Changchun, Jilin Province (northeast China). When the party was over, Boss Zhang Fei found that he was too drunk to drive. Then suddenly they realized nobody had stayed sober enough to drive his car.

Drink-driving was listed as a dangerous offence in China in 2014, esp. when the driver is drunk. Those who break the law will have their driving license revoked, face a heavy fine and may be put in jail. Zhang did not want to leave his car downtown and it was too late to call out another driver to drive the car for him. Someone then suggested they push the car home, and said that the exercise would do them all good. Thus, all ten quickly agreed and set off with Zhang at the wheel. All ten workers pushed their boss.s car home through the city streets, laughing and singing during the 45-minute journey. Passers-by were shocked to see the group.

Traffic officers said that as long as the car’s engine was not running, it would not be classed as drink-driving under the law. However, it is still very dangerous for so many people to push the car along the road, as it may cause traffic accidents.

I used to think education was the most important thing in my life. Recently my attitude has begun to change, although I still hold that it is essential for everyone in the world today. As a top junior student in my college, I was asked to make a speech on how to learn English well. Standing in front of the audience and facing so many freshmen, I was trembling. I didn.t remember any word that I had prepared. I ran out of the conference room without finishing my speech, leaving everyone puzzled. I cried that night in my room, feeling that I was a loser. Studying takes so much of my time that I feel unable to really develop myself. I am just storing knowledge; yet fail to communicate with others. I have received many awards in school, but they don.t necessarily reflect anything about me. I don.t know how to socialize. When I leave school I fear I will be of no use to society.

I realize that everyone has her or his own way of living. I want to change my lifestyle. Of course I will keep studying. Yet I plan to look for a part-time job, which might turn out to be a good chance to get to know society. I still believe that working my hardest does make me happy. I will still stay on in college, but I will not allow it to shelter me from the real world.

From this passage, we know that the author 1 .

A. does not think education is the most important thing in her life any more

B. a very young college student

C. younger than most students in college

A. show that she is a top student

B. show how much time she has spent in learning

C. don.t necessarily reflect her real self

4. The author fears that she will be of no use to society, mainly because 4 .

A. she feels she is a loser

B. she does not know how to communicate with others

C. studying takes too much of her time

5. Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage, when the author says that she wants to find a part-time job? 5

A. The job might enable her to get to know society.

B. She wants to change her lifestyle.

C. She wants to get some shelter from the real world.

Researchers at Stanford University have developed a new material that can move heat out ofbuildings and into space. The material can cool buildings even on hot days. The cooling material is a very thin sheet with many layers that could be placed on a roof likesolar panels. However, instead of turning sunlight into energy as solar panels do, the material turnsheat into infrared radiation.Shanhui Fan is an electrical engineering professor at Stanford University. He says that thepanels have a layer of material that is like sand. The panels also act like a mirror. They take heatout of buildinas and reflect the light from the sun. Both the heat and sunlight are sent 100kilometers into outer space. The panels are cool to the touch, even in the sun. Researchers say they can reduce the indoortemperature to nearly five degrees Celsius below the temperature outside.Mr. Fan says it is like having a window into space. He says the heat is sent directly into spacewithout warming the air. Buildinas in developing countries that do not have electricity or airconditioning could use the panels. In areas where one is off-grid, there is a significant potentialbenefit for storing medicine or even food. In many of these situations, being able to reduce thetemperature is important. And this would provide a way to do it.
